The Barbarians<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The stories’ from Brazilian’s comic books being reinvented by authors and characters all over the country.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

\u2018The Barbarians\u2019* is the result of an experience that we had almost 2 years ago with artistic interventions in a Rio de Janeiro slum during an important literature event called FLUPP. \u00a0The event itself is devoted to poor neighborhoods and sets out to encourage the literature and artistic production of people living in these areas. Every year it happens in a different slum and is attended by people from all over the world, like the journalist Glen Greenwald, the graphic novelists Bouler, Julie Marot and Power Paola, the Swiss plastic artists Raphael Borer and Carl Rudolf Meins, the British poet Hannah Walker, the French author Caryl F\u00e9rey and the Israeli poet Ronny Someck and the Dutch poet Daan Doesborg, just to name a few.<\/p>\n

In 2015, we invited 5 illustrators and graphic novelists to interview 5 characters whose families were some of the first inhabitants of the favela where the event happened. Based on the information gathered they developed a 5-page graphic story for each character that was plastered in big format on the walls of the slum and nearby neighborhoods. It was a bold move since we didn\u2019t know how the families would react to their portrayal and how the community itself would feel as well.\u00a0 Fortunately, we were blessed by everybody and the artwork can still be found in the community. This project was later exposed in Canada<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This experience gave us the idea to replicate the same thing all over Brazil, connecting painters, photographers, designers and all kinds of graphic related artists to portray people and communities from different backgrounds. The series would follow the whole process, from the very first contact between artist and community until the impressions of the end result. It\u2019ll also focus a lot on the artistic process and cover how the artwork\u2019s displayed in some visible venue of the community. Based on our own experience we can definitely say that it is a transforming process that touches all the ones involved.<\/p>\n

We are about to begin the project development and if you are interested it would be a perfect time to join efforts and build something together.<\/p>\n

* the name The Barbarians makes sense in our context, but probably not abroad. We can change it to a more proper name.<\/p>\n

The Brazilian Way<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>journey<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>through the history of the Brazilian people, through their recipes, in search of<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>the real,<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>traditional Brazilian food.\u00a0<\/em>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

It\u2019s difficult to define Brazilian cuisine. The plurality of external influences, the lack of unity, and the country\u2019s huge territory extension all contribute to a complex concept of the Brazilian cuisine. The project intends to rescue Brazil’s original flavor through extensive historical research, astonishing landscapes, and Brazilian people. In the first season,<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>we will retrace<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>the route of the<\/em>\u00a0\u2018<\/em>Bandeirante<\/em>s\u2019 and find out how ingredients were<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>discovered and recipes created through the hands of<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>the<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>Indigenous,<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>the<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>Africans, and<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>the<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>Europeans.<\/em>\u00a0Our guide in this adventure is Andr\u00e9 Nogal, a Brazilian Chef and researcher of recipes with gastronomic identity. The research is underway and the scripts are being written.<\/p>\n
